Those taking part in the Kingstrust less than £100 challenge: Tim Jarvis and Owen Wilby. This is the second year that Tim will cycle his second-hand girls bike on a Kingstrust C2C. It was purchased and repaired for just under £80.

First morning grey and mostly wet! We stop off for a group photo at Flint Castle.

After lunch we crossed the Mersey on the Runcorn Bridge (still raining).

Battered and muddied but by now dry, we arrive at our hotel in Wythenshawe.

Day 2: is all about the famous Trans-Pennine Trail, but it’s very much a tail of two cycle-ways with the western section up to the Woodhead pass being extremely poorly maintained with the Eastern half being the exact opposite. Here we are just before the highest point of the pass at the Woodhead Reservoir. Entirely wet up until then but as soon as we’re over the top the sun comes out.

Finally checking in at Doncaster for the night.

Day 3: entirely warm and sunny we are quickly to the Keadby canal (where we get lost behind the power station for some time).

Free at last we cross the river Trent and head for Julian’s Bower.

Now the Humber Bridge is in sight, and the remaining miles to Withernsea quickly pass.
